Fixing a Wubbanub

If your child is anything like mine their Wubbanub is life. We call ours Bink Elefante and he is the best friend to my daughter and a life saver to us. See my premie daughter was never really able to hold a pacifier in her mouth and nights were murder getting out of bed and finding it and repeat, repeat. Thankfully i found the Wubbanub and it makes night time pacifier hunting a thousand times better and now little T can find it and grab it herself. So when it ripped i quickly bought another before the pacifier tore and retired Bink Elefante Sr and Bink Elefante Jr took up arms. Its been 8 months and Bink Elefante Jr's pacifier fell off his trunk. I hate to retire another one and lord knows what we would call the next one so i decided to fix it. After ideas and ideas and two horrible nights of trying to find rouge pacifiers i found this website "The Kool Chicken" https://thekoolchicken.wordpress.com/2014/09/18/how-to-replace-the-pacifier-on-a-wubbanub/ .

This woman is a life saver and if you scroll down to the bottom you will find that Wubbanub doesn't recommend replacing it for safety reasons. OR are they wanting to keep making $15 dollars every 4 months on average you decide. I decided while ago that instead of throwing something out every time it breaks i want to fix things. So with the help of this website i learned it takes a grand total of 5 mins to fix the pacifier on a Wubbanub. Hers how i did it now i personally read a lot of how to's and i never read the massive amounts of texts that go with them so if you have them bravo to you. To be honest i didn't read 80% of the The Kool Chicken's page either. A flaw of mine i'm dyslexic and like to get to only the facts so lets see how writing a how to goes. Like The Kool Chicken recommends i would not do this in front of your child, mine is not to the point where she thinks i was hurting him but she definiently didn't like what i was doing and cried the whole time. This second time i put her down for a nap and took Bink Elefante Sr to surgery.

Items you will need:

Thread puller

needle and thread (your choice of color)

thimble

new pacifier

Here is Bink Elefante Sr in all amazing before surgery.

As you can see the dreaded tear, how she managed to do this without teeth is beyond me.

If you look where the pacifier meets the cloth you will see the seams.

Here is wear you will take you're thread puller and gently rip the threads to release the old pacifier. If you do use a knife like i did please PLEASE use the utmost caution because its not a gentle process and it is quite a tight fit initially.

Thread a needle originally i used white but this time i used a grey thread, but next time for more of an animated thing i might use a bright color. I am not a sewing expert but i get what needs doing done. I did a single thread stitch for this and started by sticking my needle inside the corner and out the front. Now if you look at the first picture you'll see the pacifier is positioned so both the trunk and the tail of the pacifier can both rest on the table if you need to you can look at the first picture. Position the pacifier in the hole and sew.

I highly recommend using a thimble to help push the needle through, getting it though the pacifier is not an easy task and is literally impossible using just your fingers. At no point do i recommend using your finger nail to help push it through. (i had the thought then in the same thought pictured my finger slipping and stabbing my nail bed)

Repeat 10-15 times and then knot the thread and you are done. (yes i see all the lint on the pacifier and it was washed before being put on front lines.)

Voila newly repaired Bink Elefante.

If you are anything like me you can take the time to do the entire project outside to enjoy the evening air. I hope this helps you all fix instead of throwing out and remember just because something is not big, new, or extravagant doesn't mean it can't be celebrated.
